"One
woman, one man and a guitar. From the moment they walked onto the
bare stage, magic indeed was afoot. For the next two hours these
two immensely gifted artsits exhilirated, entertained and throughly
beguiled...the seduction was effortless."
North Columbia Monthly
Since
their successful Kennedy Center debut in 1996, Janet Chvatal and
Scott Kritzer are capturing the hearts of audiences across two continents,
by carving out a brand new niche in the chamber music scene. Stepping
away from the traditional "art song" pairing of voice and piano,
they are offering their audiences a fresh alternative: the more
immediate and approachable sound of the guitar, coupled with a pure,
transparent, almost folk -like voice. Originally brought together
by their passion to share the intimacy and beauty of romantic music,
their concerts are being hailed "the NEW chamber music", combining
a repertoire of new and unique voice and guitar arrangements, with
an inviting and casual performance style.
"Enchantment
is what Chvatal and Kritzer are about...everything this Duo does
speaks of romance."
David Stabler, The Oregonian
After
three successful years touring the United States and Canada, the
Duo released their debut CD in 1998, "Songs of the Americas". Since
then, their popularity has extended to Europe, with their most recent
European performances including two events to celebrate the new
Millenium, with stars from the Cirque du Soleil and the Tony award-winning
Musical, Riverdance. The concerts were enthusiastically received
by audiences of over 8000 in the 'Festhalle' in Frankfurt, and the
Rheingoldhalle in Mainz, Germany
"An
exquisite program of the highest artistic standard...the high point
was the American Soprano Janet Chvatal and her partner, guitarist
Scott Kritzer...sublime vocal culture."
Die Presse, Vienna
This
coming season will see the release of their long-awaited second
CD "Arias and Lullabies" on MIRAMONT Records. The CD features the
Duo with the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Munich in new arrangements
of beloved opera melodies for voice, guitar and orchestra.
"This
is the cutting edge of repertoire for voice and guitar: fresh arrangements,
all brilliantly programmed and exquisitely performed. Watch for
more great things to come from this talented pair."
In Tune magazine, Japan
To
be sure, the real magic of this Duo is in the experience of their
live performances. Their concerts offer what one critic called:
"...a real, viable alternative to the stuffy atmosphere of the classical
vocal recital. In the sensitive hands of Kritzer, and the elegant
vocalism of Chvatal, these timeless classics are being reborn...
for the hopeless romantic in all of us, here at last is ROMANTICISM,
vibrant and sensual... alive and well."
