"a
master of intimate sound and gesture."
The Oregonian
When Scott Kritzer finished the final chords of his highly-acclaimed
Carnegie Hall Debut, Bernard Holland, of the New York Times
hailed the young guitarist as
"...intelligent
and self-assured...with a sure technique and a musical sensitivity...he
created an inner life in his playing...a thinking and caring musician."
He then made another musical splash with debuts in London's prestigious
Wigmore Hall, and Lutheran Hall in Sapporo, Japan. Colin Cooper
of London's Classical
Guitar magazine wrote:
"A
guitarist in the best modern American mold, clean and accurate
in technique with a welcoming warmth of expression and a sensitivity
to color."
Scott's commitment to technical excellence as the structure beneath
an unparalleled sense of musicality has brought him over a decade
of accolades from audiences and critics alike, in concert halls
spanning the globe. He has been featured in the world's leading
guitar magazines:
Japan's
Guitar Magazine
Londons'
Classical Guitar
and
Guitar International
Americas’
Soundboard
and
Guitar Player
A graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Mr. Kritzer
studied with Michael Lorimer and Aaron Shearer and in master classes
with Luciano Pavorotti, Gustav Leonhardt, Yehudi Menhuin and Alicia
de Laroccha. After graduation he was chosen as an assistant to
Mr. Lorimer in a year-long master class held in North Carolina
where he also gave a special performance for the late Andres Segovia.
Mr. Kritzer has premiered American works in New York, Los Angeles,
London, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Cincinnati and Sapporo, Japan.
He possesses an uncanny ability to seek out and commission fresh,
invigorating repertoire that he invests with both robust character
and poetic nuance. Able to reveal insights without resorting to
exaggeration, Kritzer's guitar takes on all the riot and color
of 20th century life.
"New
Music maestro Scott Kritzer steps off the edge of the ordinary...displaying
brilliance to a full-house!" The Oregonian
Mr.
Kritzer's recent performance for the California Center for the
Arts in Escondido was sold-out eight months in advance. Other
performers on that series included Itzhak Perlman, Ivo Pogorelich,
Cecelia Bartoli and the Emerson String Quartet.
"Kritzer's
hands overwhelm the listener with a palette of sounds, tempi,
and dynamics obscuring any preconceived notion about limitations,
leaving one breathless from straining to savor every musical moment."
Neill Archer Roan, California Center for the Performing Arts.
Mr. Kritzer appears regularly as a concerto soloist with orchestras
throughout the country, while continuing his touring with Janet
Chvatal. "A champion of the living American Composer" he
is presently premiering a program of commissioned works by Pacific
Northwest composers Janice Giteck, Tomas Svoboda, Obo Addy, Michael
Stirling and Steve Layton called CLEARWATER. In addition to featuring
Mr. Kritzer on both the classical and electric guitars these works
will also include dance, didjeridu and percussion.
